The earliest story in the series timeline. An OVA released on March 19, 1988. It is the chronologically oldest episode, serving as a prequel to *The Last Red Shoulder*. The musical score consists of new compositions by Yuki Inui. A new opening animation, storyboarded by Tohru Yoshida of Anime R, was originally planned but, due to scheduling constraints, a digest version composed of excerpts from the main footage was used instead.
