This animated short was my graduation project last year. The concept for this story came to me during the height of the Yang Yongxin incident, which profoundly shook me. It made me deeply realize that many of our parents do not love their child as "a person," but rather the identity of "my child." [If the person occupying the identity of "my child" does not satisfy me, then it is perfectly natural for these parents to kill the original "them" and replace them with a "my child" who can satisfy me.]
Based on the above idea, I conceived a school. Parents send their unsatisfactory children to this school, which is responsible for creating robots identical to the children and possessing their memories. They kill the original child and have the robot live on in their place... One day, a boy accidentally enters the robot manufacturing workshop and encounters the robotic "himself." He is hunted down, and during the process, he tries to seek help from classmates, only to discover that his classmates have long been replaced by robots. In the end, he is still killed, but the "other self" who kills him sheds a tear. I know that "a robot shedding tears" is an illogical setting, but I still wanted to depict it this way. It is the only glimmer of light in this suffocating worldview I conceived: "Even if the whole world doesn't need you, there is still a self that loves you. Even if this self is created by others' expectations, it will still be moved by your passing." I hope the work can convey this idea and offer those in the abyss a thought on self-salvation. Even if the current you is not the original you, you are still loved and cared for by yourself...
During the production of this short, the gentle up主 exposed the "Yuzhang Academy" incident, which shocked me once again. At the same time, I saw more and more people bravely stepping forward to oppose this industry that tramples on human nature. At the time, I felt a sense of relief that "the world is moving in a better direction." But what I never expected was... those who stood up to make the world a better place were pushed into the abyss by this very world... All I can do now is speak out... Originally, due to the short production timeline, the busyness of graduation, and my own limitations, this animated short did not achieve the ideal effect in terms of production. In a sense, it could be considered a "dark history," but I am no longer afraid of embarrassment. I only hope to use this clumsy work to raise my voice a little and convey a bit of my feelings...
The ending BGM is from чаикастерх: 1984.
