Before little rabbit Taotao went out to pick mushrooms, his mother reminded him to come home early. On the way, Taotao encountered a frog in the pond and played with it for a while, unfortunately falling into the water. While drying off in the sun after climbing ashore, he couldn't resist teasing a little squirrel who wanted to play with him. And after finishing mushroom picking, he completely forgot his mother's words, engaging in a mushroom fight with a black bear.
With a face covered in mud, Taotao came to the lakeside and saw a dirty face reflected in the water. He couldn't help but say, "How ugly," and an echo replied. Angered, Taotao spoke more harsh words, and the echoes scolding him came one after another. Frightened and upset, Taotao ran all the way home and threw himself into his mother's arms. Upon hearing what happened, Mother Rabbit smiled and said she knew a way to make the voices that scolded Taotao treat him kindly—but first, Taotao had to be kind himself.
