The first part of a two-part theatrical film adaptation of the "Dead Moon" arc, the fourth story arc of the original manga, marking the return of the TV anime "Sailor Moon" — a social phenomenon of the 1990s — to the big screen after 25 years. Under the general supervision of original creator Naoko Takeuchi, director Kon Chiaki, who previously helmed the third season of "Sailor Moon Crystal" (the "Death Busters" arc), returns to direct. Character designs are handled by Kazuko Tadano, who served as character designer and animation director for both "Sailor Moon" and "Sailor Moon R." During the largest total solar eclipse of the century, as the city is enveloped in a festive mood, Usagi Tsukino and Chibiusa receive a plea for help from Pegasus Helios, who is searching for the "Maiden" who can break the seal of the Golden Crystal. At the same time, a mysterious circus troupe calling itself the Dead Moon Circus appears in the city. Their goal is to spread the nightmare incarnate, Lemures, obtain the "Legendary Silver Crystal," and dominate the Moon, Earth, and even the entire universe. Chibiusa, whom Helios calls the "Maiden" and who feels a budding affection for him as someone who needs her, finds herself at the center of the conflict...
