As Christmas approaches, Alex the lion, Marty the zebra, Melman the giraffe, and Gloria the hippo decide to officially bid farewell to Madagascar and return to their long-awaited New York to celebrate the holiday together. Despite the quiet and uneventful farewell party, their enthusiasm for going home remains undimmed. The good friends take off in a hot air balloon, only to be shot down by King Julien, who mistakes them for the Red Bandit. Soon, the real Red Bandit appears in the night sky. In the ensuing chaos, Alex accidentally knocks it down, only to discover that the so-called Red Bandit is actually Santa Claus! Unfortunately, Santa loses his memory from the fall. To prevent children around the world from being disappointed, Alex and his friends, along with the penguins, decide to step in as Santa's helpers and deliver gifts to every corner of the globe.
