At the end of the Edo period (20 years before the story begins), mysterious aliens known as the "Amanto" invaded Earth. The war between Earthlings and the Amanto erupted instantly, with numerous samurai and anti-alien patriots joining the battle against the invaders. After witnessing the overwhelming power of the Amanto, the shogunate ultimately bowed to them, abandoning the samurai and unilaterally signing unequal treaties that allowed the aliens to enter the country. Subsequently, the "Sword Abolishment Edict" was issued, stripping samurai of their swords and rendering them powerless to resist. From then on, the Amanto ran rampant, and the shogunate, influenced and even controlled by them, became a "puppet regime." In such an era, one samurai lives a whimsical life with his companions.
