The story spans from the near future to two hundred years later. Earth civilization is locked down by Trisolaris using a super-technology called Sophons, halting all fundamental research. Yet, humanity must continue to advance on this limited foundation to resist the impending invasion of the Trisolarans and defend their homeland and civilization. On a broader scale, both Trisolaran and human civilizations are hunters in the dark forest, cautiously protecting themselves while eliminating others, struggling for the survival of their civilizations.
