Once a glorious and thriving opera house is now gradually declining, facing the fate of being seized by the bank due to mortgage defaults. The current owner, koala Buster Moon (voiced by Matthew McConaughey), unwilling to see his father's lifelong effort come to an end, decides to organize a singing competition. However, he accidentally prints the prize money as $100,000—a sum he cannot afford. Inspired by the prize and their singing dreams, music enthusiasts such as pig mother Rosita (voiced by Reese Witherspoon), teenage porcupine Ash (voiced by Scarlett Johansson), mouse singer Mike (voiced by Seth MacFarlane), shy little elephant Meena (voiced by Tori Kelly), and gorilla Johnny (voiced by Taron Egerton) all come to audition.
They each face seemingly insurmountable obstacles, yet for the sake of their dreams, they give their all, chasing even the faintest glimmer of hope...
