Blu (voiced by Jesse Eisenberg) is an extremely rare blue macaw in the world. When he was still a fledgling, he was captured from the tropical jungles of Rio by despicable poachers and taken to the United States. Through a twist of fate, he became the pet of a little girl named Linda and has been her companion for many years. Now, Blu lives a pampered life as a homebody, even forgetting how to fly. One day, an ornithologist named Tulio (voiced by Rodrigo Santoro) passes by the bookstore run by Linda (voiced by Leslie Mann). He is astonished by Blu and hopes to take him back to Rio to breed with the world's only remaining female blue macaw. Though filled with unease, Linda decides to take Blu to Rio, considering the fate of the blue macaw species. Blu successfully meets the beautiful Jewel (voiced by Anne Hathaway). Jewel, however, is determined to escape her cage and return to the wild. Meanwhile, a group of criminals has set their sights on these adorable little creatures...
