This animated film uses black and white lines reminiscent of sketches to narrate a tragic love story from Greek mythology.
Pan, the god of forests and fields, was extraordinarily ugly, with goat ears and horns on his head, a hairy human upper body, and the lower body of a goat. Yet, he had a deep love for music. His tragedy lay in falling in love with the beautiful river nymph Syrinx, who did not return his affection. To escape Pan's persistent advances, Syrinx pleaded with the gods and was transformed into a cluster of reeds by the riverbank. Unable to find her anywhere, a heartbroken Pan cut down the reeds and fashioned them into a flute. From then on, he played the reed pipe he had crafted every day.
