Although he has created countless amazing inventions, Wallace (voiced by Peter Sallis) finds himself in a difficult financial situation. To make ends meet, he decides to rent out a spare room. Soon, a tenant arrives—a silent and cold penguin. One day, Wallace gifts his dog Gromit a pair of mechanical trousers, which seems to catch the penguin's interest. In the following days, the penguin goes out of its way to be helpful, making Gromit feel neglected and prompting him to pack up and run away on a rainy night. However, Gromit accidentally discovers that the penguin is actually a wanted criminal by the police. Meanwhile, the penguin begins to carry out its wicked criminal plan using the mechanical trousers... This film won the 1994 Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film, the 1994 BAFTA Award for Best Animated Film, the 1994 Ottawa International Animation Festival Grand Prize and Audience Award.
