Since his fateful encounter with the three adorable little girls—Margo (voiced by Miranda Cosgrove), Edith (voiced by Dana Gaier), and Agnes (voiced by Elsie Fisher)—the once notorious villain Gru (voiced by Steve Carell) has completely transformed. He has turned over a new leaf, becoming a kind and loving father and a businessman who makes terrible-tasting pudding and jelly. Of course, nothing is ever perfect. During this time, his old partner Dr. Nefario (voiced by Russell Brand), who still yearns for the legendary life of a villain, leaves him to seek new opportunities. One day, Gru is kidnapped by the highly skilled but reckless agent Lucy Wilde (voiced by Kristen Wiig). It turns out that the organization Lucy works for has developed a drug capable of altering biological genes, but their laboratory in Antarctica has been stolen by a mysterious thief. Therefore, they enlist Gru, with his past villain experience, to go undercover. After some consideration, Gru accepts the mission and, along with the super-adorable Minions, teams up with Lucy to form a hilarious and chaotic duo on a mission to track down the culprit.
