It was included as a special video in the "Silver Express Special Video Set" and "Black Locomotive Set" released in 1996. The two volumes contain a total of 3 episodes. The cast and the atmosphere of the story differ significantly from the later TV anime version. At the time of its initial release, there were plans for a TV anime adaptation, and it can also be viewed as a pilot version. In the OVA, the voice of Black Express is provided by Shigeru Chiba, who later voiced the same role in "Denkō Chōtokkyū Hikarian."
