Produced during the peak of the "Manzai Boom" in the early 1980s, this is a nonsensical comedy theater anime. In the Sengoku period, the monkey-loving military commander Hachisuka Koroku picks up a young man named Hiyoshimaru, who looks exactly like a monkey, and makes him his servant. However, Hiyoshimaru, who aspires to become an official samurai, takes the foot soldier recruitment exam for Imagawa Yoshimoto but fails. Undeterred, he falls in love at first sight with Lady Oichi after seeing her in a photo card and now sets his sights on becoming a samurai under Oda Nobunaga. The director is Takaji Sawada, who was the producer of the popular show "Kao Meijin Gekijo," one of the programs that helped ignite the Manzai Boom. The character designs, modeled after popular manzai comedians, were handled by the popular illustrator Shoji Yamato, and the voice actors for each character were portrayed by the very comedians they were based on, such as The Bonchi, Shinsuke Shimada, and Ryusuke Matsumoto.
