This film is a re-edited version of the TV series, released in the Toho theater chain on March 15, 1980. The runtime is 96 minutes, with a standard screen aspect ratio. It was screened as a double feature with "The World of Panda: Huanhuan and Friends." While the voice cast for most main characters remains the same as the TV series, the voice actors for some main characters and the majority of the supporting characters have been changed. Notable production differences from the TV series include the absence of stop-motion animation sequences and the complete removal of narration. These changes result in a slightly different atmosphere compared to the original series. Story-wise, the film focuses on the episodes leading to Remi's reunion with Mrs. Milligan and is structured from Remi's perspective. However, condensing a year-long TV series into approximately 100 minutes proved challenging, resulting in a significantly abridged version. The general structure is as follows: "The Beginning ~ Remi Sold to Vitalis" → "Opening" → "Vitalis's Imprisonment" → "Meeting the White Swan Troupe" → "Vitalis's Release ~ Resuming the Journey" → "Vitalis's Death" → "Meeting Mattia" → "Return to Chavanon Village" → "Journey to England ~ The Appearance of Driscoll" → "Remi Arrested by Scotland Yard" → "Escape from Scotland Yard" → "Reunion with Mrs. Milligan ~ Ending ~ Conclusion." As outlined above, most episodes depicting life in Chavanon Village, the journey with Vitalis, the journey with the White Swan Troupe, and the journey with the new Vitalis troupe have been cut. Episodes involving Driscoll and Scotland Yard are reduced to about one-third of their original length, and the episodes concerning Vitalis's death and the meeting with Mattia have been altered. Consequently, the crucial aspect of the TV series—"the story of the protagonist Remi's growth"—is completely lost. Furthermore, since all episodes related to the Acquin family are entirely cut, Lise, who was an important character in the TV series, appears only in two shots in the final scene without any lines. To address narrative inconsistencies and insufficient explanations arising from the re-editing, many lines of dialogue have been changed from the TV series. It is presumed that the entire film was newly re-dubbed for this purpose.
