Grandpa went to the mountains to cut grass, Grandma went to the river to do laundry. Grandma brought home a large peach that had drifted downstream, and from inside it emerged a lively boy. Momotaro, who had punished the oni tormenting the villagers, received kibidango from Grandpa and Grandma and set off to subjugate the oni at Onigashima. Following behind him were a dog, a monkey, and a pheasant. Crossing the sea to the palace where the oni lived, he made the oni chieftain surrender, and with treasures of gold, silver, and coral in hand, Momotaro triumphantly returned safely to the village.
