Produced by Acme Shokai, this is a two-reel animated film (black and white). As the title suggests, it is a work based on the Chinese epic "Journey to the West." Both direction and cinematography were handled by Takahiro Ishikawa. Ishikawa was an artist who studied under Seitaro Kitayama, one of the founders of Japanese animation. Incidentally, besides this film, other pre-war animated films based on "Journey to the West" were produced by various companies, such as "Journey to the West: The Story of Sun Wukong" (1926) and "The Tale of Sun Wukong's Bravery" (1935, produced by Kenzo Masaoka, known as the father of Japanese animation).
