Serialized from 1984 (Showa 59) to 1989 (Heisei 1) in the end pages of "Fujiko Fujio Land" published by Chuokoron-Shinsha.
A gag series featuring the antics of an enigmatic baby from outer space, Ultra B, and an elementary school boy named Michio. The tankobon release by Chuokoron-Shinsha comprised 11 volumes in total, but it is currently out of print.
It was also adapted into an anime, broadcast from April 1987 (Showa 62) to March 1989 (Heisei 1) [1], with a total of 119 episodes.
April 1987 - September 1987: Aired alongside "Obake no Q-taro" in the Sunday morning "Fujiko Fujio Theater."
October 1987 - March 1989: Aired alongside "Pro Golfer Saru" and "Biri Dog" in the Monday 7 PM timeslot "Fujiko Fujio Ⓐ World."
Produced by TV Asahi and Shin-Ei Animation. A theatrical anime film, "Ultra B: Dictator B·B from the Black Hole" (1988, stereoscopic film), was also created.
It is currently being rebroadcast on Tele Asa Channel.
In the original work, UB's sunglasses had ordinary thick frames, but following the anime adaptation, they were changed mid-series to a winged design. Additionally, the mole near the mouth was altered from a black circle to a light blue star shape.
