On February 14, 2012, TV Asahi President Hiroshi Hayakawa announced at a regular press conference that new episodes of "Hattori-kun" would be produced and broadcast in India after a 25-year hiatus, starting in May of the same year. All 26 episodes (each consisting of 2 segments) aired on the country's kids' channel "Nick India." The story was newly created by Fujiko, with settings largely consistent with the original. The animation was produced using CG.
As mentioned earlier, the "Hattori-kun" anime had been airing in India since 2004 and continued to enjoy popularity. Anticipating expanded revenue opportunities in the content business within the country, which has been experiencing rapid economic growth, a joint production was undertaken by the local animation studio Reliance Media Works and Shin-Ei Animation, with support from Hakuhodo DY Media Partners (the majority of the actual production was handled by Reliance locally).
From the outset, President Hayakawa stated in the aforementioned press conference that they were considering reverse-importing the series to Japan for broadcast. In February 2013, it was announced that a Japanese dubbed version would air on Animax in Japan starting May 13 of that year. Except for Junko Hori as Hattori-kun and Kenichi Ogata as Shishimaru, the voice cast was changed from the original series. The setting is contemporary (around 2012), so elements such as the internet and mobile phones, which were not common during the original broadcast, also appear.
