In the late 1990s, with the rapid advancement of technology, the general-purpose humanoid labor machines known as "Labors" expanded into every field.
However, this also gave rise to a new social threat known as Labor crime. To combat the increasing number of Labor-related crimes, the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department established the Special Vehicles Section 2 within the Metropolitan Police Department's Security Bureau. Thus was born the Special Vehicles Section 2 Patrol Labor Company, commonly known as "Patlabor."
And so, time passed—
In the 2030s, Japan, facing a continuous decline in its working population, saw the advancement of automation through AI technology.
The once-cutting-edge "Labors" had become an established part of the social infrastructure.
The standalone "Labors" piloted by humans were gradually being replaced by autonomous robots, becoming increasingly outdated.
Yet, even as the times changed, the work of Special Vehicles Section 2 remained the same: protecting people and the city.
Equipped with the upgraded "AV-98Plus Ingram," a tuned version of the old-model 98 AV Ingram, the Second Unit confronts new technological crimes with wisdom and courage.
