An anime utilizing characters from Hallmark Cards' greeting cards. The planning and production were handled by the French video company DIC in 1984, with the animation itself produced as a Japan-U.S. co-production by Tokyo Movie (now: TMS Entertainment) for 13 episodes of 25 minutes each (one season). The "Rainbow Brite" characters maintain enduring popularity in the United States. Even after 25 years since their debut, they continue to receive support, with past TV series being released on DVD and toys (such as plush dolls and figures) including DVDs with "special episodes" bundled and sold since 2000. In recent years, Rainbow Brite character merchandise has finally begun to be sold in the general market in Japan as well.
