In 1977, a re-edited version of the television broadcast was released in theaters. This was a re-edit of Yamato, which had been a commercial failure on television, intended for export outside Japan with the cooperation of Toshio Masuda and Eiichi Yamamoto. Producer Nishizaki intended this to be his final involvement with anime and planned only a one-week theatrical release for fans.
