This work is a "love story" about a boy who grew up without being loved, wishing for destruction in exchange for his own existence. The setting is the end of summer, 1996. Minato, a 10-year-old boy living in a seaside town in Kumamoto, spends his days holding his breath while living with his alcoholic father. Minato's only emotional support is the girl deity "Ben-chan" who appears on Benten Island. For Minato, the time spent with her is the only moment he can reclaim himself. However, as his placement in a child welfare facility is decided and his parting with Ben-chan draws near, Minato prays to a mysterious floating light in the sea called "Shiranuhi," said to grant one wish. Minato's wish is for his father's death. His prayer, fueled by growing hatred, begins to transform into an irreversible curse.
