Based on the original work by Chikako Urano, this manga film was co-scripted by Masaki Tsuji (known for "Star of the Giants" (1969)) and two others, with direction by Eiji Okabe and Fumio Kurokawa. The animation director was Ryukichi Takeuchi. Ayuhara Kozue, shortly after transferring to Fujimi Academy, is made the leader of a group of underachievers. After being rejected from joining the volleyball club, Kozue forms an impromptu volleyball team with the underachievers and, through exceptional teamwork, defeats the regular team. She then joins the volleyball club and is recommended to become captain. However, one day, a girl named Midori, who possesses genius-level skills, transfers in. She joins the volleyball club and, using the influence of her wealthy father, seizes the captaincy from Kozue. But due to Midori's selfish play, the team loses a match. They then bring in the strict coach, Mr. Hongo, for Spartan training. During a match against the prestigious Matsushima Middle School, Midori learns the importance of teamwork and perfects an attack combination with Kozue. Thanks to the efforts of these two, the Fujimi Academy volleyball club defeats Matsushima Middle School. With Kozue, once again elected captain, at the center, the team sets out to aim for the national championship.
