A mid-length feature animation produced by the talented animator Mitsuyo Seo at Nihon Manga Eiga-sha, which was considered a major production for its time (1949).
In the kingdom of foxes, a prince is born. However, the prince lacks a tail, which he should have had. Concerned about this, the ministers issue a decree forbidding all foxes in the kingdom from ever showing their tails in front of the prince. Unaware of this, the prince grows up believing it is normal to have no tail, but eventually, he discovers the truth behind this scheme...
Based on "The Emperor's New Clothes" and other stories from *Andersen's Fairy Tales*, the production involved a large number of animators and drawings for its time. Despite repeated interruptions due to funding difficulties, it was somehow completed. Furthermore, the original 47-minute runtime was cut to 33 minutes in preparation for release, but the distributor Toho deemed the content left-leaning (referred to as "red" at the time), leading to its shelving. Seo left the animation industry over this incident, leaving behind a work with many such anecdotes.
