125 years after its Meiji-era renovation, the Dogo Onsen Honkan, designated as an Important Cultural Property, is undergoing preservation and repair work—the first such project in Japan for a public bathhouse still in operation. During this period, Matsuyama City is promoting the "Dogo REBORN Project," continuously releasing premium content only available at this time. This includes a collaboration with Osamu Tezuka, a pioneer of Japanese manga and animation, and his life's work, "Phoenix." Centered around the Phoenix object that has appeared on the second floor at the north side entrance of the Ninoyu (Second Bath), a nighttime projection mapping event titled "Dogo Onsen × NAKED MESSAGE –The Phoenix Arrives–" is being held. Furthermore, the original anime "Phoenix: Dogo Onsen Chapter," produced by Tezuka Productions and presenting a new "Phoenix" story, has finally been released. It consists of the prologue "Okuninushi and Sukunahikona," depicting the legendary tale of Okuninushi and Sukunahikona from the Age of Myths that remains in Dogo Onsen, and Episode 1 "Prince Shotoku's Visit," based on the legend of Prince Shotoku's visit during the Asuka period. The stellar voice cast includes Tsuyoshi Kusanagi (actor) as Okuninushi, the guardian deity of Dogo Onsen, Suzuko Mimori (voice actress) as Sukunahikona, and Nana Mizuki (voice actress) as the Phoenix. Just like in the original "Phoenix" work, the Phoenix transcends time and space from the Age of Myths to the Asuka period, bringing eternal energy and color to each era. Sarutahiko, who also appears in the original work, makes an appearance. This anime allows viewers to enjoy the story while learning history and will make them want to visit Dogo Onsen for a bath.
