Based on the book of the same name by Gotō Shinpei, this anime was directed by Imaizumi Yūichi, one of the fathers of Japanese animation, though it features a higher proportion of text than visuals. In his later years, Gotō Shinpei advocated for the ethicalization of politics and launched an ethicalization movement.
