A TV anime based on the popular manga by Hisaichi Ishii. This is its new theatrical version. The Yamada family lives in Tokyo's Higashi-Edogawa Ward. The family's second son, Noboru, a high school student, dreams of becoming a professional baseball player. One day, he receives an offer from a professional scout! But it turns out it's not for professional baseball—somehow, it's an offer to become a professional wrestler!? ("Never Give Up! Fierce Deathmatch") The head of the Yamada household, Ine, who manages the apartment building "Yamada-so," has been gaining weight lately. To go on a diet, she joins a local tennis club, but there she runs into her own son, Noboru, who joined the club to chase after girls! ("The Outie Belly Button Cup: A Mother-Son Showdown") Each TV series episode covers three stories in a 30-minute slot, and the film follows the same three-story structure. The opening and ending are also the same as the TV version. In the following year, 1982, the content of this film was broadcast as one episode of the TV series. It was screened alongside the live-action film "Moonlight Mask."
