Long, long ago, the kind-hearted Dai people suffered under the tyranny of an evil demon. From time to time, the demon would summon wind and rain, riding the fierce gales to descend upon the village and wreak havoc. The villagers endured immense suffering, and though the young men rose up to resist, they were no match for the demon. In their desperation, the villagers had no choice but to meet the demon’s demands, offering young men and women, and even livestock, as sacrifices at regular intervals in exchange for brief periods of peace. This time, a brave and beautiful girl named Yuxiang volunteered to be taken by the demon, hoping to completely rid the land of this scourge. Inside the dark cave lair, some Dai people were imprisoned in cages, while young girls were forced to dance to amuse the demon. Yuxiang carefully observed the demon’s moods, flattered him endlessly, and kept plying him with wine until the proud demon became thoroughly drunk and finally revealed his weakness.
