During the Second Revolutionary Civil War in southern China, a poor boy named Xiaoyong supports his family with his frail shoulders. Beyond the hardships of life, the cruel and cunning landlord, Shan Zhonglang, ruthlessly oppresses the poor, but Xiaoyong refuses to bow to this beast in human clothing. When the Red Army's guerrilla forces enter the mountainous area and drive Shan Zhonglang away, Xiaoyong, whose parents were killed by the landlord, feels the passion of the revolution and resolves to join the Red Army to liberate all impoverished people.
