"An Object at Rest" tells the story of a massive stone that, over the passage of time, personally witnesses the evolution of Earth. Once a great mountain, it endures dinosaurs trampling over it and glaciers advancing, until a large tree grows atop its head. All it wants is a good sleep, but it is unexpectedly hauled into a mill. Invading armies then transform it into a cannon, launching it into the sky before it sinks to the bottom of a lake. Waves eventually push it ashore, and the lonely stone simply wishes to sleep once more...
