The world of the fairies living in FernGully was once vast, but due to human destruction, nature lost its balance, and the forest was nearly wiped out. Many years later, as time slowly passed, the forest gradually regained its vitality, and the wicked demon Hexxus was imprisoned beneath a great tree. Since then, humans had never appeared in FernGully again, and the fairies lived a leisurely life. By chance, the fairy Crysta flew out of the dense forest and witnessed a world she had never seen before. She told Magi Lune, the prophet of FernGully, about the black smokestacks. An ominous smoke hung over FernGully, and Magi Lune knew that human destruction and pollution had begun again. A confused, rambling bat accidentally stumbled into FernGully, bringing news of humans damaging nature. Unable to contain her curiosity, Crysta decided to fly and see for herself. Crysta had never seen a human before, but when she encountered one—a young lumberjack named Zak—she accidentally shrank him down to her own size. However, trouble arose for FernGully: Zak’s logging crew planned to clear-cut the forest. To make matters worse, the logging crew unintentionally freed the demon Hexxus, who had been imprisoned within a tree. Danger drew closer day by day, but the fairies living in FernGully remained unaware. Zak, brought into FernGully and now tiny, gradually adjusted to his new size and became good friends with Crysta and the others. Previously careless about trees, he slowly developed a sense of protecting them, inspired by Crysta’s actions. At the same time, he realized just how wrong his logging crew’s work was. The logging crew, controlled by the demon Hexxus, aimed to destroy FernGully. Many trees suffered man-made damage, and Zak, deeply saddened, decided to do everything he could to stop it. To save the forest, the prophet Magi Lune willingly sacrificed herself, distributing her life force to the other fairies. Facing the powerful invasion of Hexxus, Zak and all the fairies united and finally defended the forest. Zak eventually returned to his normal size, but from then on, as a human, he would dedicate his life to protecting the forests.
