It begins with an insect struggling with all its might to break free from its cocoon. Yet, just as it escapes the confines of the chrysalis, it is swept into a battle for survival with another insect. As the two small creatures wrestle, a dramatic ending unfolds—the faint outline of a man is reflected on the surface of a roadside puddle. All the struggle and conflict abruptly end under the man’s hard shoe sole. And so, on the road left with a shoe print, the crushed bodies of the two small insects are also left behind. At this moment, the camera abruptly stops. As the ending credits appear, I think what should also emerge in the viewer’s heart is a touch of desolation and bleakness. Kucia brings us into this special microcosm, once again allowing us to feel his dreamlike and poetic touch, along with the cruel reality filled with helplessness.
