A dutiful dog is clamoring for its owner to take it out for a walk, and so they set off. At the park, it spots a little girl skipping rope, but it worries that the swinging rope might harm its owner. In a fit of fierce barking, the little girl is scared away. It then sees a cute squirrel, and again, its first thought is the potential threat to its owner's life—the squirrel is also frightened off. As the journey continues, the dog grows even more anxious and uneasy. The fledglings in a bird's nest, a mantis on a leaf, a groundhog digging a hole, and fluttering butterflies—all seem like formidable enemies. It barks ferociously, believing it is protecting its owner, but the outcome turns out to be quite unexpected. Directed by the renowned American animation director Bill Plympton, often hailed as the Quentin Tarantino of the animation world, the short film "Guard Dog" was nominated for Best Animated Short Film at the 77th Academy Awards (Oscars) in 2005.
