A Is for Autism A 1992 British animated documentary short film directed by Tim Webb, this outstanding work uses crude strokes to most authentically express the inner world of an autistic teenager. Primarily featuring drawings by young children on the autism spectrum disorder, interspersed with personal accounts from some of the patients themselves about various sensations and experiences, it reveals a peculiar world behind those dancing lines—constantly switching lights on and off, repeatedly asking the same questions, counting from 1 to 1,000. Nothing seems to disturb them, yet it feels as if everything disturbs them. I genuinely adore these children and hope more people will understand and pay attention to them. I believe this group certainly exists in China as well, but neglect of autism has led to public indifference and caused them even greater pain. This film was nominated for the BAFTA Award for Best Animated Short Film, won the Best New British Animation award at the Edinburgh International Film Festival, and received the OIAF Award for Best Educational Production at the Ottawa International Animation Festival.
