September 5, 1665, London. The plague rages, and the foul stench of rotting corpses permeates the air. The gloomy, oppressive sky feels suffocating. The periwig-maker sits coldly at his table, having locked himself inside his shop. He opens his diary and meticulously records everything happening around him. Outside the window, the red-haired girl’s mother has just passed away. Her body, treated like worthless straw, is haphazardly wrapped up and tossed into a cart by corpse collectors. The red-haired girl struggles desperately, clinging to her mother’s body until it gradually disappears into the distance. The periwig-maker continues to watch everything indifferently. Suddenly, the red-haired girl appears before him, like a corpse that has lost its soul. When the periwig-maker wakes from his sleep, he realizes this was no dream—she has truly died. The periwig-maker goes to the burial pit in search of the red-haired girl. The next day, his face ashen, he dons the girl’s red hair and lies quietly in bed, awaiting the arrival of death.
