"Bravo Dongdong" is another series by female director Hu Yihong from the Shanghai Animation Film Studio, following the first domestic campus-themed animated series "Crazy for Song." This show, positioned to reflect the lives of middle school students, is hailed as a coming-of-age story for 14-year-old boys and girls. The animation carefully selects ordinary yet sensitive, budding, and special moments from this unique stage of life. Utilizing pre-recorded voice acting and incorporating elements of fashion design, music, clothing, daily life, and the internet, it tells the story of the protagonist Dongdong and his peers—Meilan, Sigua, Xiami, Weichao, Moka, Sanbao—as well as their interactions with teachers and parents.
The term "Bravo" is often translated as "fantastic" or "well done," so "Bravo Dongdong" means "Fantastic, Dongdong." Dongdong is the 14-year-old male lead of the series, grappling with the many troubles typical of his age—sometimes irritable and sensitive, sometimes arrogant, and at other times self-deprecating.
