This film is the world's first abstract animation in cinematic history, silent and black-and-white. At the 2006 Annecy International Animated Film Festival in France, it was ranked second in the "Century of Animation • 100 Works" list.
The film has no plot or theme. In less than two minutes of footage, director Émile Cohl uses the simplest of lines to perform multiple transformations for the audience: a person turns into a wine bottle, the wine bottle becomes a flower, an elephant transforms into a house, and so on. Even today, its imagination remains astonishingly beautiful.
