This black-and-white abstract animated short film, produced in 1927, was directed by German filmmaker Oskar Fischinger. To create this film, Oskar Fischinger colored multiple layers of hot wax. Once cooled, the resulting wax block resembled a marble cake. Fischinger then proceeded to slice thin sections from the wax block and filmed each step. Oskar built his own wax-slicing machine and invented the "Wachs-Schneide-Technik" (wax-slicing technique).
