During the production of a television anime series, a pilot film is created to demonstrate the final product's style and content to sponsors and broadcasters. This pilot film for "Dororo" remains more faithful to the original work compared to the officially broadcast version. To make the characters more accessible to viewers, the broadcast version underwent significant changes to their facial designs and personalities. While some of these alterations were well-received by the audience, others ultimately took entirely unexpected directions. Additionally, although the pilot was produced in color, the official version was made in black and white due to budget constraints. The story follows Hyakkimaru, who was cursed at birth and lost parts of his body, as he embarks on a journey with the young thief Dororo to defeat 48 demons and ultimately regain his complete form as a "human."
