"Keke and Kexin's Family" is the first Chinese version of a family humor animation series meticulously crafted by the CCTV Animation Department. This series tells the amusing stories of the protagonists, Keke and Kexin, a pair of 5-year-old twin siblings (a boy and a girl), in an ordinary family, an ordinary residential neighborhood, and an ordinary kindergarten. It approaches children, family, and society from a fresh perspective, addressing all topics with humor and charm as they unfold and are resolved.
Each episode of "Keke and Kexin's Family" is 8 minutes long and stands independently. This animation breaks away from the long-standing weaknesses in Chinese animation creation, such as portraying child characters as overly "perfect, noble, and flawless," having a monotonous artistic style, and targeting only a very young audience. Instead, it applies the diverse thinking of the information age to the creative practice of Chinese animation. In character design, it strives for individuality, realism, and depth. Director Yang Zilan was inspired by the popularity of "Chibi Maruko-chan" and "Crayon Shin-chan" to create iconic Chinese animation child characters. She stated that Chinese audiences urgently need a series of family humor short animations set against the backdrop of contemporary Chinese family life, appealing to both adults and children.
