After the chick hatches from its shell, it kicks the eggshell aside as "trash" into a corner. Unwilling to accept being labeled as "trash," the little eggshell shakes its sleeping siblings awake, only to have them all advise it to give up, because an eggshell has no hands or feet. While the little eggshell is lost in thought, Grandma Dark Cloud offers to help it. 　　 On the way, the little eggshell is mistaken by a big rat for a whole egg. Upon realizing it is just a "trash" eggshell, the rat, feeling tricked, decides to take it home to use as a rice bucket. Heavy rain falls, and the eggshell becomes the rat's eye cover, later serving as a boat to ferry the rat across a river. It is at this moment that the eggshell cleverly escapes from the rat, leaving the rat to be swept away by the rushing current. After the rain clears, the eggshell is picked up by a child and painted into a beautiful toy. While happily playing with other toys, it encounters the rat again—turns out, it didn't drown.
