Disney's latest animated short film has been revealed: "Us Again," directed and written by Zach Parrish, the animation supervisor of "Big Hero 6." Stills from the film have also been released, showcasing a beautiful night scene.
The story follows an elderly man named Art and his wife Dot, who possesses a youthful heart. On a magical night, they rediscover their lifelong passion through dance. This approximately 6-minute short film has no dialogue and tells its story through dance and a soundtrack infused with funk and soul. The dance sequences were created in collaboration with the renowned married dance duo Keone and Mari Madrid, who previously gained fame on "World of Dance" for a popular routine where they portrayed an elderly couple.
Parrish told Entertainment Weekly that the film was inspired by his own experiences. Around the age of 35, he began to feel the effects of aging, noticing physical limitations such as reduced agility while playing basketball. He later realized that instead of dwelling on what has been lost, one should embrace the present. Parrish also drew inspiration from the differing attitudes of his grandparents toward "growing old."
"Us Again" is also the first theatrical short film from Disney Animation Studios in nearly five years. It will be screened alongside "Raya and the Last Dragon" in North American theaters on March 5 and will be available on Disney+ in June.
