"In 1933, commissioned by Mingxing Company, we brothers began producing animated short films for them. For me, it was my second time working at Mingxing Company... Additionally, we created a public service short for the Health Bureau to demonstrate the dangers of spitting in public, and produced an advertisement for Yili Soda Company. All these projects at Mingxing Company were completed by us four brothers through approximately four years of intense work. Our goal at the time was to expand the influence of animation and explore its various applications. Therefore, we produced animated shorts serving different purposes. To ensure the healthy development of animation art in our country, we declined many lucrative opportunities. Apart from creating one soda advertisement to demonstrate the utility of animation, we had no further interest in producing commercials for the many businessmen who approached us, and also refused to make lowbrow entertainment films for certain movie companies. We remained committed to utilizing animation art to serve children's education and the national salvation movement." — Autobiographical account by Wan Guchan, selected from *Shanghai Film Historical Materials (Volume 6)*
