"Little Mouse on the Prairie" is a 52-episode long-form animated series jointly produced by China's Dalian Afanti International Animation Co., Ltd. and the American Saban International Entertainment Company. It aired on China Central Television in 1996. In May 2010, Mudanjiang University and Mudanjiang Mudan Animation Co., Ltd. obtained the joint production naming rights and exclusive television distribution rights for Heilongjiang Province. A new version of the series aired on CCTV Children's Channel in January 2012.
The work is adapted from the novel of the same name by Stephen Cosgrove and Robin James. The story revolves around the country mouse Twitchy and her family, and the city mouse Osgood, as they join forces with their friends—rabbit Browsen, duck Flap, and frog Jeremiah—to confront the adventures and challenges posed by the fat cat Bissy and the weasel Sweeney. With its lighthearted and humorous plotlines and witty dialogue, the series depicts a vibrant life of prairie animals who love nature and support each other in unity.
The series won the third prize in the animation category at the 4th National Children's Television "Golden Child Awards" and the "Special Award for Television Animation" at the 16th China TV Golden Eagle Awards. After 2001, the animation's copyright in the United States was acquired by Disney.
