During the reign of Emperor Wu of the Western Han Dynasty, south of the Huai River and north of the Yangtze River, the Kingdom of Huainan governed the four commanderies of Jiujiang, Lujiang, Hengshan, and Yuzhang. Liu An, the Prince of Huainan, revered the ways of immortality and gathered a wide variety of beans to refine elixirs. Though the elixir was never completed, the beans transformed into human form, gaining life. Thus, a legendary "bean" life began to unfold.
