In Miao folklore, a cruel king is known for slaughtering birds and feasting on their flesh. One day, a young man rescues an injured golden oriole. Under his careful care, the bird recovers and transforms into a beautiful and lovely Miao girl. When the king demands that the peasants hand over birds, the girl magically conjures many birds, playing tricks on the king, his ministers, and soldiers, and helps the young man defeat the king in archery and horse-riding competitions. Finally, enraged and humiliated, the king orders the girl to make a "hundred-bird garment" and threatens to kill them. The hundred-bird garment then turns into countless birds that chase the king. The king ultimately falls into a raging river and receives his deserved punishment.
