Once upon a time, by the shore of a great lake, lived an elderly woman with no children, whose life was rather dull. One day, while washing clothes by the lake, she saw a huge red fish spit out an enormous winter melon. She carried the big melon home, and in the middle of the night, a girl and a boy leaped out of it one after another, filling her with such joy that she couldn't stop smiling. She named the siblings Dongdong and Guagua.
Dongdong was sensible and hardworking, often helping the old woman with various tasks, and everyone liked her very much. Guagua, on the other hand, was mischievous and troublesome, always coming up with clever ideas at every moment, and nobody liked him. Although Dongdong often felt embarrassed by Guagua's actions, the two shared a deep bond. Later, in order to help Guagua become more sensible, Guagua and the old woman teamed up with the huge red fish in the lake to put on a little act.
