The Inner Mongolian boy Bayute accidentally discovers the endangered Mongolian wild horses and forms a friendship with the lead horse, Daji. Upon hearing the news, Professor James from the Welsh Nature Reserve in the UK, along with his assistant Peter and granddaughter Kitty, travels to Inner Mongolia to select horses. Accompanied by Bayute’s father, Jili (the ranch director), they choose Daji and take him back to the UK for training. Bayute watches tearfully as Daji, who had been by his side day and night, departs.
After being sent to the UK nature reserve for training, the Mongolian horse Daji still longs for his homeland—the grasslands of Inner Mongolia. On a stormy night, he breaks out of the stable and escapes from the reserve, only to be captured by horse traders and sold to a slaughterhouse in France. Professor James and his granddaughter Kitty rush to France to rescue Daji. In a fierce struggle with the slaughterhouse workers, Daji finally breaks free from the iron cage that held him and gallops toward freedom.
