A modern-day explorer discovers the ruins of an ancient battlefield in the vast, endless desert. At night, a sudden fierce wind erupts, sweeping mummies buried in the sand dunes high into the air. These zombies, slain a thousand years ago, are carried aloft by the gale, re-forming ranks and engaging in a fierce battle—a scene that can be interpreted as the explorer’s dreamlike reflection on ancient warfare. Finally, as the wind and sand subside, the land returns to tranquility. The explorer awakens and walks away in contemplation. When he looks back toward the ancient battlefield, a faint oasis appears in the distance.
